Switzerland is so close, it is easy just to pop over the border for a day trip. Trains from Como go to Lugano, a large lakeside town full of designer shops, and take about 40 minutes, otherwise it is only an hour's drive away.

Travelling Further
If you feel you want to travel further afield, or are staying in La Vista for a longer period of time, trains from Como go all over Italy, and even over the border to Switzerland and beyond. Tickets for the train can be purchased through the trenitalia website. These electronic tickets do not need franking, and can be shown to the conductor on your phone/tablet. All journeys below start at the Como's San Giovanni station.
