There is plenty of opportunity for cycling or hiking around Lake Como. Nesso lies on the ancient Strada Regia, linking Como with Bellagio, via all the towns and villages in between, and there are numerous mountain top walks all around the lake. Zelbio and Pian del Tivano, situated in the mountains above Nesso, provide great starting points for walks. From the lakeside in Como, there is a funicular railway to the town of Brunate, and from Argegno there is a cable car up to village of Pigra. Both destinations have fantastic views.
In the mountains above Bellagio, there is a small skiing area at Monte San Primo, with excellent views of the lake and the alps, whilst the Pian di Tivano offers cross-country skiing. Piani di Bobbio, to the the north-east of Lecco, is about an hour and a half away by car, and the resorts of St Moritz and Bormio can be reached in around three hours.
